From what I have observed it is a bit unusual for this Great Egret and Herring Gull to be standing on a rock this close together. The gulls sort of tag along the egrets and when they get too close the egrets fly away.
The past few days have been rainy, cloudy and windy. I have not seen any egrets until this morning when this Great Egret flew in to look for food. Here he assumes the forward-leaning pose for a short time, then walks over rocks to another spot.

Here we see the Great Egret assuming an eager forward-leaning pose with the neck extended when looking for fish. Also we get a very good look at the field marks for this large white heron, the yellow bill and black legs.
On sunny and calm low-tide mornings Great Egrets will often just stand in the sun for a long time. This one has a very long plume on his/her back extending beyond the tail. The field mark for this large white heron is its yellow bill.
2 Snowy Egrets eat fish and seaweed for morning feeding
Just after sunrise on a very warm and calm morning, these 2 Snowy Egrets flew in for a healthy breakfast consisting of small fish and seaweed. Right about now the Long Island Sound water reaches maximum temperature of 75? (F).
A low-tide at sunrise and a very calm and warm morning make good conditions for this Great Egret to have breakfast. Here we see the Great Egret eating a healthy diet of seaweed and fish. Its laser vision and long slender yellow bill are quite effective.
These 2 hungry Snowy Egrets flew in last night for the dinner time fish feeding. Here we see them rushing about and shuffling feet to stir up food. Also we get a good look at the slender black bill and the yellow feet.
